Wages, welfare and wellbeing

The Government has been too slow responding to the coronavirus outbreak and its impact on our economy and people’s lives. We urgently need a support package that helps everyone and guarantees incomes.

Labour has a plan to secure everybody’s wages, welfare and wellbeing in this unprecedented time.

We propose that the Government –

  • Underwrites the bulk of wages for those at risk of losing their jobs, or temporarily out of work, in exchange for a job guarantee
  • Gives financial support to people who are sick or self-isolating because of the coronavirus
  • Provides security for those people who are now out of a job
