The Boundary Commission has published its proposals to reshape the UK electoral map.
As part of the proposals, the North East will lose two parliamentary constituencies, along with the North West and West Midlands. The seats will be redistributed, with the South East gaining seven seats, an additional three for the South West and East of England, and London gaining two.
Information about the changes to the Easington constituency can be found in the North East Regional Report above. In summary, two main changes are proposed:
- The Boundary Commission proposes to extend the constituency westward taking in Wingate as well as including Doxford ward from the Borough of Sunderland.
- Change the constituency name from Easington to Seaham and Peterlee.
The Boundary Commission’s consultation is open until Tuesday 2nd August 2021. This is your opportunity to have your say on the proposals.
