Seaham welcomed the 4th Regiment Royal Artillery granting them Freedom of the Town on Saturday 23rd July 2022.

A special thank you must go to David McKenna, with the Freedom Parade marking a decade of activity to celebrate and commemorate our Armed Forces. Former Colour Sergeant David McKenna served over 24 years with the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers. Following his retirement, David has marked military anniversaries, established Seaham Armed Forces Day, organised Sounding the Retreat and created the iconic Pebble Poppy.

Seaham’s links with the Armed Forces have never been stronger, and while regiments normally accept Freedom of the City, it is unique for a regiment to accept Freedom of a Town, which is a testament to local residents who have made our Armed Forces Personal welcome and an integral part of our civic life.

In the years ahead our links with the 4th Regiment Royal Artillery will only strengthen and I look forward to welcoming them back to Seaham very soon.
