Grahame Morris MP Working for Easington
I am proud to join campaigners and advocates across the UK to support Fairtrade Fortnight 2024, which runs from the 9th – 22nd September. This year’s theme, Be the Change, is a positive campaign that highlights the incredible work of farmers and workers at the heart of the Fairtrade movement.
As a Member of Parliament, I have signed the Fairtrade Pledge, committing to work with campaigners both in my constituency and in Parliament to support farmers and workers affected by unfair trade. These individuals, many of whom are in lower-income countries, deserve fair pay and must have a voice in addressing the poverty and climate crises that threaten their livelihoods.
Fairtrade is not just a label, it is a global movement that has empowered over 2 million farmers and workers across 58 countries to build a better future for themselves and their communities. By choosing Fairtrade products, we as consumers can ensure that the goods we enjoy, whether it is coffee, chocolate, or bananas, are produced responsibly, with fair prices that support sustainable livelihoods.
I am committed to working towards trade, development, and climate policies that reflect these values, ensuring that we build a fairer world for all. Fairtrade is one important way we can make sure our global economic system benefits everyone, particularly those most vulnerable to exploitation.
Together, we can Be the Change and continue to make strides towards a fairer, more sustainable world. I encourage everyone to support Fairtrade this fortnight and beyond, whether by purchasing Fairtrade goods or raising awareness of this vital cause.
