Grahame Morris MP Working for Easington
As the MP for this proud veterans’ community, I am delighted to welcome the announcement of increased funding for veterans’ homelessness support. On this Armistice Day—a moment to honour those who have served and sacrificed—this renewed investment reaffirms our gratitude and commitment to our Armed Forces.
The funding will extend key initiatives, including Op Fortitude, a helpline connecting veterans at risk of homelessness with housing and services, and the Reducing Veteran Homelessness program, which provides wraparound support like mental health services, employment help, and pathways to independent living. With this, the government is ensuring support for veterans at risk, not only this Christmas but through 2026.
In addition to this, the government has committed to fully enshrining the Armed Forces Covenant into law, guaranteeing veterans and their families the respect, support, and fairness they deserve. Last week’s legislation to create an independent Armed Forces Commissioner underscores the government’s efforts to strengthen the voices of our serving personnel and improve service life. Other recent commitments—like expanded tax relief for employers hiring veterans, and enhancements to the Veterans ID system for voting—show a valued approach to supporting those who have served.
These announcements reflect a clear promise to our service members and their families, ensuring they have the opportunities and support needed to thrive in civilian life.
