Community pharmacies are crucial in delivering frontline healthcare, particularly in rural areas like ours. However, with 1,250 closures since 2017, the sector is under immense strain. Without urgent intervention, many more pharmacies risk shutting their doors, leaving communities without essential services.
I have written to the government urging them to address the issues as soon as possible and ensure that pharmacies receive fair remuneration for the vital care they provide. A sustainable funding model is critical to prevent further closures and safeguard access to primary healthcare.
Protecting our local pharmacies must be a priority.
