Easington MP Grahame Morris has welcomed revised proposals from the Boundary Commission for England.

The main changes compared to the initial proposals for the Easington constituency include:

  • Dropping plans to rename the constituency as Seaham and Peterlee constituency.
  • Remove Doxford (Sunderland) and replace it with part of Trimdon and Thornley (polling districts DKC, EEA, SNA, SNB, and SNC)

Speaking following the publication of the revised proposals Grahame Morris said:

“The Boundary Commission has listened to concerns about placing a single Sunderland ward into an otherwise wholly County Durham constituency. Though including Wingate and parts of Trimdon and Thornley, the new Easington constituency will more closely resemble the former Easington District which people know and recognise.

In the final stage of the consultation, I encourage residents to give their views and support these proposals that are a significant improvement.”
