It was an honour to be invited to present two awards at the first annual Pride of Seaham Awards. Organised by Kimberly Hood-Ralph and hosted at the Westlea Golden Grove Inn, the awards recognised the exceptional contributions of individuals and groups across six categories: Young Heroes, Local Fundraisers, Animal Welfare, Sports, Community Heroes, and the Heart of Gold Award.

As I listened to the nominees stories, I was struck by the passion, dedication, and sacrifice displayed by each one. From fundraising for important causes to volunteering countless hours to help those in need, the nominees truly embodied the spirit of community service.

The highlight of the event was undoubtedly Dave McKenna’s acceptance of the Community Hero Award. Instead of accepting the award on his own, he called on fellow nominee Andy Cammiss to join him on stage, sharing the award and recognising the amazing work of the East Durham Veterans Trust.

The Pride of Seaham Awards was an uplifting event that recognised the good work that happens every day in our community.

A mention must go to Kimberly Hood-Ralph for organising such a special occasion. From the beautifully decorated room to the exceptional team that welcomed guests and nominees and delivered fantastic service, Kimberly’s hard work and dedication made the event a truly memorable one.

I was proud to be a part of the first Pride of Seaham Awards, and I hope that this event will continue to grow and recognise the outstanding contributions of the heroes in our community. Let us celebrate and honour those who make Seaham the amazing place it is to live.
