Homes England Brownfield Fund: Public Letter

Easington MP Grahame Morris is calling on Durham County Council to secure investment and regeneration for East Durham through Homes England’s new Brownfield, Infrastructure, and Land Fund.

The Homes England £1 billion fund aims to transform unused, vacant, and derelict lands into strategic sites for employment and housing.

In a letter addressed to the Corporate Director of Regeneration, Economy, and Growth, Mr Morris emphasises the need for prompt action. He urges Durham County Council to learn from past experiences and engage early with Homes England to secure the funding our community deserves.

Drawing attention to a critical setback, Mr Morris points out how five bids to the government’s levelling up fund failed, costing County Durham a staggering £100 million in lost investment. Our thriving community simply cannot afford to miss out on this golden opportunity.

With Homes England’s latest guidance fresh off the press, the clock is ticking, and Mrs Morris believes it’s time to take charge to secure the investment needed to revitalise housing and employment in Easington Colliery, Horden, and Peterlee Town Centre.

“The time for action is now,” stated Grahame Morris, following publication of his letter “We cannot let our green spaces be swallowed up by unsuitable housing developments while areas desperate for investment languish. Homes England’s £1 billion fund offers a golden opportunity we must seize to breathe new life into our communities.

The government’s “Levelling Up” promises have been nothing more than words, failing to deliver lasting growth, development, and investment. We are watching closely and will hold them accountable to ensure the Easington constituency receives its fair share of investment. If the Homes England scheme falls short, we will take action and demand answers. The time for empty promises is over; we need real results and progress.”
